Historical and memorial monuments
Numerous monuments in the area remind us on particular historical events. They are connected to the 2nd World War and to the Nation Liberation Struggle. There are many partisan burial grounds. Some monuments are related to the individuals that created our cultural history (Maks Pleteršnik) and recent history (Josip Broz Tito).
 
During the 2nd World War Kozjansko was the centre of partisan movement. Wartime was marked by Brežice squad, Kozjansko squad, Kozjansko battalion, XIV. division and Kozjansko division.

National Liberation Struggle  Monument in Bizeljsko
Seventeen tall towers with three dominating ones form a symbol of Liberation Front. The monument is dedicated to the tragic war past of Bizeljsko (peasant rising, emigration and Germanisation during the 2nd World War, liberation struggle). It was created by the architect Karel Filipčič and first presented to the public on the 22nd of July, 1976.
 
National Liberation Struggle Monument in Pišece
The monument symbolises the struggle for freedom and it is dedicated to peasant rising, Brežice squad, killed soldiers of Srečo's squad, hostages killed in Pišece, collective struggle of Kozjansko people, Zagorje battalion and to the victory of Kozjansko division over German stronghold. The monument created by Karel Filipčič was unveiled in 1975.
 
Podsreda National Liberation Struggle Monument in Podsreda
There is a monument on the square, and next to it there is a tomb with 14 soldiers of the 2nd squad of Kozjansko battalion – Srečo's squad. The soldiers were killed on the 18th of February, 1943 and were later moved from the graveyard to the tomb. The monument was designed by the architect Dušan Samec and was unveiled on the 3rd of July, 1962.
Kozje National Liberation Struggle Monument in Kozje
This monument is dedicated to the dead soldiers of Nation Liberation Struggle, to the hostages and other victims of fascist violence. Next to the monument there is a tomb with brave soldiers of Brežice squad, Kozjansko squad and Kozjansko division. The pedestal holds the complete list of war victims in Kozjansko region from 1941 to 1945; 1235 killed soldier of NOB, 419 hostages and 572 victims of fascist violence. The monument's design was planned by the architect Dušan Samec. The bronze statue was created by Stojan Batič. The monument was unveiled on the 8th of September, 1963.
National Liberation Struggle  Monument in Sromlje
The monument's design illustrates partisan movement in the area. It was raised to mark the 35th anniversary of Kozjansko division in 1979 and was made by the architect Franc Filipčič from Brežice.
 
National Liberation Struggle  Monument in Lesično
The monument dedicated to dead soldiers, killed hostages and victims of fascist violence was unveiled on the 9th of September, 1962. The soldiers are buried in the nearby tomb. The monument's design was made by the architect Dušan Samec.
 
Podsreda Javeršek house in Podsreda
Tito's mother was born in Javeršek's House in 1864. Josip Broz spent his childhood years here with his grandfather Martin. The present appearance of the building dates back to the 19th century and some rooms have not changed since then, for example the entrance with a black kitchen (a kitchen with black smoky walls), a living room called »hiša« and a bedroom called »kamra«. The house has been turned into a museum.
Hayrack (Senik) in Podsreda
From 1934 to 1941, Josip Broz Tito organised Communist party meetings, wrote his articles and reports in a hayrack whenever he returned to Trebče.
 
Trebče Kolar's house in Trebče
Kolar's House in Trebče is closely connected to Josip Broz Tito. It was the home of his favourite aunt, Ana Kolar and as such hosted Tito's visits and meetings before the 2nd World War. After the war, Tito returned to the house mostly to visit his cousin, Ana Kostanjšek. Marshal Tito's Museum in Trebče was opened in the upper house in 1976. In the lower reconstructed house the exhibition titled Tito in Trebče first took place in 1987. Kolar's House is currently being renovated.
Kunej's wine cottage in Gorjane
In early October of 1941, Brežice squad was established to take action in the area Podsreda-Stara vas-Dobova-Brežice-Krško-Sevnica-Bohor. On the 28th of November, 1941, the enemies surrounded Kunej's wine cottage on Gorjane above Poklek. Some soldiers were killed on the spot and the rest were caught and shot as hostages in Maribor. There is a memorial plaque with the list of all captured and killed soldiers. The plaque was presented to the public by the Bistrica  League of Combatants in 1951.
 
Preskar's mill in Osredek
A memorial plaque next to the entrance reminds us of brave soldiers fighting in Kozjansko battalion, which was destroyed after the betrayal by a Gestapo intruder in the gorge of the Močnik stream near Preska. The event happened on the 18th of February, 1943 and it is explained on the panel inside the mill. Peskar's Mill was renovated in 1981.
 
Pleteršnik house in Pišece
Maks Pleteršnik (1840-1923) was born and buried in Pišece. He earned his place in Slovenian history by writing the Slovenian-German dictionary. He collected and arranged its content for amazing 20 years. His home has been turned into a museum.

The monument was raised in October, 1970 in memory of dead soldiers and victims of fascism from Pečice, and its author is Franc Filipčič.
