Tours

The remoteness of Kozjansko created a unique coexistence of nature and culture, of tradition and progress. These are the foundations of modern sustainable development. Visitors can enjoy footpaths, cycle tracks, wine tourist roads, collections, exhibitions, workshops, concerts and numerous events that present both tradition and modern creativity – and all the above is closely connected to the beauties of nature and cultural monuments.

Visitors of Kozjanski Park are guided by our tour guides. There are two levels of guiding:

  • general guiding
  • expert guiding

Visitors can order a guided tour for the complete area of Kozjansko and particularly for:

  • Podsreda Castle
  • Zagaj gorge
  • Slovenian-Bavarian House
  • Podsreda Market Square
  • Kolar's and Javeršek's Farmhouse
  • Pišece Castle
  • Learning trails
  • Levstik's Mill

We cooperate with the carriers of public programs that are included in park's offer (Olimje, Sv. gore, Pišece, Bizeljsko, Pilštanj, Public Forestry Service…) and they help us organise the tour guide service.

Podsreda castle

Access:
Podsreda castle is located on the northern slope of Orlica at the altitude of 475 metres. You can drive up the asphalt road from Podsreda Square or you can walk up the forest path. It will take you approx. 45 minutes to get to the castle. From the northern side of castle there is a beautiful view on the medieval market square, the Bistrica valley and Hrvaško Zagorje in Croatia.

Podsreda Castle deserves a special place among the castles of our park. It lives a full and prosperous life in the 21st century, too. In summer months the castle rooms get filled with sounds of various instruments. Famous artists present their work in the former castle grain storage room. On warm summer evenings »the most castle-like among Slovenian castles« offers a pleasant meeting place under the mighty chestnut trees in the yard.

Castle admirers can get acquainted with numerous architectural elements from all the major historical periods. In the castle you can take a look at permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as at:
- castle kitchen with open fire
- castle dungeon
- Renaissance hall
- defence tower
- castle attic
- castle granary
- castle cellar

Permanent exhibitions:
On the first floor of the southern palace the visitors can learn about the history of Podsreda castle, see the oldest works of art with castle motifs, read about architectural history and compare the castle before and after its renovation. The presentation is enriched by the actual things found during the renovation such as glazed tiles, pieces of ceramics and bottles

The graphics collection:
On the second floor in the Renaissance hall there is a collection of graphics illustrating medieval clothes and equipment from around 1860. In the castle tower the visitors get a chance to admire the lithographies of Styrian castles.

Temporary exhibitions:
Townsman in the castle / From Ivan Hribar's heritage

Fossil and mineral collection of Stanislav Bačar

Javeršek's farmhouse in Podsreda

Access:
3 km from Podsreda, in direction of Bistrica ob Sotli, it's possible to drive there along a narrow asphalt road.

The birthplace of Marija Broz  (born Javeršek) is in Graben and its local name is »Pri Lapu«. A path that leads to the house also ends there. This gives the place a feeling of a remote and lonesome farm, limited only by the Bistrica river, forests and hills.  The interior, »hiša« (a living room), »kamra« (a bedroom) and »črna kuhinja« (a kitchen with black smoky walls) tells us about the level of material culture in that time. There is some authentic furniture that has been there since Tito's youth. The spatial arrangement indicates that this is a typical Slovenian farm house from the 19th century. The members of Javeršek family still live and work on this farm.

Opening hours
Javeršek's farm house is open to visitors by previous arrangement.
