KOZJANSKO REGIONAL PARK

KOZJANSKO JABOLKO

In the Kozjansko Regional Park, the apple is no mere fruit!

The Kozjansko apple tree creates the image of the Kozjansko cultural landscape, and the Kozjansko apple, which grows in Kozjansko’s tall-stemmed meadow orchards, has become more than a fruit – it is a symbol of preserved nature, tradition, sustainable farming, and the visibility of the protected area of the Kozjansko Regional Park.

KOZJANSKO APPLE FESTIVAL

The Kozjansko Apple Festival is a traditional flagship event of the Kozjansko Park, held every year in the market town of Podsreda on the second weekend of October, a tradition that has continued since the year 2000.

MEADOW ORCHARDS

High-stem meadow orchards are an extremely important habitat for birds. For this reason, the Kozjansko high-stem orchard area is designated as a Natura 2000 special protection area of European importance – SPA Kozjansko.

THE KOZJANSKO PARK ORCHARD

The meadow orchard (collection orchard) of Kozjansko Park is located in the village of Gradišče above Podsreda (Gradišče 22). It extends over more than three hectares and is cultivated according to the principles of organic farming.

In Kozjansko Park, we strive to preserve the tall-stemmed meadow orchards as important habitats for a variety of animal and plant species. To this end, we have set up a collection orchard and an organic nursery, planted several meadow orchards and fruit trees, provided tall-stemmed fruit tree seedlings to farmland owners, conducted fruit tree pruning and grafting workshops, provided fruit processing assistance, helped with planting plans, and declared the most caring owner of a meadow orchard to receive the Carjevič title.

An apple from the traditional high-stem meadow orchards reflects care for nature, the preservation of tradition, and the heritage of our ancestors. It stands as a symbol of nature conservation, healthy living, and the identity of this protected area.
