KOZJANSKO REGIONAL PARK

ABOUT THE PARK

The Kozjansko Regional Park is one of the oldest and largest protected areas in Slovenia. In 1981, the Republic of Slovenia designated much of the Kozjansko and Obsotelje region as a protected area — the Trebče Memorial Park — based on a balance between cultural heritage and nature conservation values (Trebče Memorial Park Act, Official Gazette of the SRS, No. 1/81).

For professional, systemic, and promotional reasons, the area increasingly became known as Kozjansko Park. In 1999, the Nature Conservation Act (Official Gazette of the RS, No. 56/99) defined the name, status, and management of the protected area, formally establishing it as a regional park named Kozjansko Park, managed by a public institute.
