IN THE ORCHARD INTERPRETATION CENTER
In the middle of the collection orchard in Zaravno in Gradišče (Podsreda) stands In the Orchard Interpretation Center, which can be reached via the 4 km long Apple Trail.
Along the Apple Trail, we are accompanied by presentations of the contents that make up the exceptional cultural landscape around the Podsreda square. The trail starts at the Podsreda market square and leads past the Zidanšek tree-lined avenue, across the Bistrica River and along the crossroads of chapels to Stare svete gore, then through the forest, between meadows and farms, all the way to the Kozjansko Park orchard and In the Orchard Interpretation Center. Here we are greeted by an inscription: “The apple is more than mere fruit in Kozjansko park.”
We learn the meaning of this inscription in the orchard and at the Interpretation Center, where the importance of meadow orchards for the cultural landscape and biodiversity is presented.
What types of trees grow in a meadow orchard? How many traditional and indigenous varieties of apple and pear trees grow in the orchard? Who pollinates the trees?
