The trails of Bizeljsko include a group of trails around the Bizeljsko settlement across wine-growing hills, which include a typical cultural landscape and natural and cultural sights. The footpaths are described in detail on the website https://www.bizeljsko.si/category/pespoti/.

The group of trails around Bizeljsko includes the following trails:

 

Trail to the “repnice” caves

  • It runs from Stara vas in Bizeljsko to Brezovica, which is famous for its repnice caves. Repnice are sand caves made of silicate sand, which are now used as wine cellars.
    The route starts at Ekonomija (near the Istenič sparkling wine cellar), then leads past vineyards and wine cellars to repnice. Along the way, you can enjoy beautiful views of Obsotelje and the Bizeljsko hills.

St. Vitus Trail

It runs from Parkljevec (the area between Brezovica and Pišeška cesta) to the Church of St. Vitus. From here, you can continue to the pilgrimage centre Svete gore or even to the Castle Trail.
In spring, you will be accompanied by flowers and chirping birds, and in autumn by the sound of the wind rattle. On the way, you can enjoy beautiful views of Bizeljsko, Bizeljsko Castle, Dramlja, Špiček hill, and towards Orlica.

Castle Trail

It leads from the village of Bizeljsko to Bizeljsko Castle, which creates a characteristic view of the surrounding landscape. The castle building stands at the top of a hill, with outbuildings below. The trail to the castle winds around the hill and gradually leads through the entrance tower into the castle courtyard. The castle offers magnificent views of the vineyard landscape, the village of Orešje and the Croatian Zagorje region.

Trail across Orešje

  • The trail takes us through Orešje, famous for chestnuts and its favourable climatic conditions with Mediterranean influences. As a result, frosts are rare or non-existent and figs, khakis, lavender, kiwifruit, and almonds thrive. On hot summer nights, we can hear the song of cicadas, which gives us the feeling of being at sea.

    The footpath leads from Ledine past Trojno mesto and on along Smehova pot and over Bohor. Then we start to climb further through the vineyards of Kozja peč and towards Vlka pečina, where the path starts to descend towards Orešje and the Church of St. Magdalene.
